Hart District Marching Bands Earn State Championships Again!
The Wm. S. Hart Union High School District was well represented at the state championships for marching bands early in December, with the Hart High Marching Regiment earning its seventh consecutive championship in Division 4A and the marching band and color guard from West Ranch High School earning its second championship in Division 3A.
The Hart District had a total of four schools qualify to participate in the state championships sponsored by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association an achievement in itself. SCSBOA adjudicates more than 60 competitive field tournaments and more than 40 competitive band reviews throughout Southern California. The SCSBOA Field Championships feature performances by the 12 highest-scoring marching bands in each of six divisions.
Hart High School's seventh consecutive championship in the most competitive 4-A Division is unprecedented in the history of the state championships. The Hart Marching Regiment won several tournament championship titles on the way to the state match and its championship performance of "Solaris" received a score of 92.6 out of a possible 100 points at the state championship one of the highest scores in the band's history.
"It's remarkable what these students have accomplished this year," said Band Director Anthony Bailey. "This year's show was challenging musically and technically and they rose to the occasion. I'm so proud of each and every one of them."
Congratulations also are in order for Band Director Jason Marshall and the West Ranch High School band and color guard. The band and auxiliary units took the Sweepstakes award at the Hart Rampage Field tournament and took first place in five competitions this season. They were championship finalists in two competitions before earning the state championship in Division 2A at the SCSBOA state championships.
"We are so proud of Jason and his students," said West Ranch Principal Bob Vincent. "The show, 'The Bermuda Triangle,' was amazing."
Marching units from Saugus and Canyon high schools also qualified for the state championships. Saugus earned third place in Division 3A and Canyon came in 10th in Division 2A.
