ABOUT SHINE SO HARD
Shine So Hard’s sound defies single-genre classification but carries on the great tradition of L.A. artists like Buffalo Springfield, The Doors and X in creating original music full of depth, power and melody.
Based in Los Angeles, Shine So Hard formed in mid-2011 when guitarist K.O. Saltsman answered a Craigslist ad placed by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Mark Mason seeking musicians for a collaborative project. Both had been looking for like-minded musicians for quite some time and Saltsman was struck by the sincerity of Mason's ad. A few emails later they were jamming in Saltsman's Echo Park house and the chemistry was instant. They immediately began writing songs that would form their 2012 debut EP, "The Shoreline at Sunset," with the two co-producing and Mason mixing and mastering the dreamy psychedelic pop tinged rock.
Mason studied audio engineering at the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences and fronted the Tempe, Ariz., mid-2000s groove rock band Seven Car Pileup. Saltsman, a former professional broadcaster, has a degree in film from the University of Texas and played around Austin in a number of ‘90s indie pop and alternative bands, including Bug/Splinter.
In 2012 Mason encouraged his friend Tina Colson to come sit in on bass and her melodic playing fit in perfectly with the "basket weaving"-style of guitar the boys were crafting. Tina is a professional photographer as well as an accomplished artist and stylist. She owns her own company, Soji Designs, and grew up in Orange County, Calif., where she played in the punk band Angoras.
So far Shine So Hard has recorded "The Shoreline at Sunset" and a single, "Beautiful Girl," on eof the songs featured in this edition of SCVTV’s "House Blend" hosted by Stephen K. Peeples.
