Republican Steve Knight is now a member of the United States Congress as the first session of the 114th US congress commenced in Washington DC today. Two thirds of the 46,000 people who applied for a California drivers license since AB 60 was implemented on Friday have failed the test. Owners of La Cocina, a popular SCV-based Mexican restaurant, broke ground at a new location at the corner of Golden Valley and Sierra Highway. Shortly after the “unexpected closing” of Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery, the owners announced they are rebranding the Valencia restaurant as Varsity Draft House. All-American wide receiver Trent Irwin from Hart High School has announced on Twitter he will play college football at Stanford. Television viewers can catch the SCV NewsBreak on SCVTV at the top of every hour from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., repeating the following morning at 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. SCVTV runs on Time Warner Cable Channel 20 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, and streaming on SCVTV.com. |

One still has to study for the test and must be able to read. I believe that it is available in over 25 different languages. (I am a former driver’s ed instructor.)

I had a co-worker killed by an illegal driver. And since, if it went to trial one of the possible outcomes could be life in prison, he was deported without trial. Oh. And he had been deported 3 times prior to hitting my co-worker with his car and killing him for touching children. Yes. Touching like THAT.
If you don’t have insurance it is reported directly to the dmv…that’s the whole purpose to allowing them a dl in the first place…

The only way I can find this justifiable is if after giving all these illegals drivers licenses, for which they have to admit they are NOT legal citizens to receive, is to have the Boarder Patrol agents in buses go to each of the addresses given on the issued licenses and round up ALL the illegals and drive them south of the U.S. boarder to drop them off C.O.D. to the Mexican government officials

This DMV IS AN ABSOLUTE DISASTER, worse then NYC. MAYBE instead of a million dollar Library with a fireplace they can build a million dollar DMV FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD TOO.
I go to the DMV once every several years, if that.
When I do, I make an appointment beforehand and I’m in and out in less than 15 minutes.
I wouldn’t want my tax dollars being used to expand and beautify a building I rarely ever use.
At least I can enjoy the library with my kid.

Even unlicensed people have insurance and when u get an American license (California) the insurance is in the dmv records the send you notices if u dont have insurance they cancel the car registration.

Drivers Ed is required by insurance companies to lower rates. I don’t if CA law requires it for a graduated license program or not. I’m not sure I learned much in drivers ed at 16…

Why don’t you go down to the DMV and perform a battery of tests on the undocumented immigrants and see what the results are. You probably can’t as you’re not qualified. I did read the article, Christian. 52% of foreign born adults are dropouts. 41% of US-born Hispanics are dropouts. Is it your assertion that whether a person is a foreign-born or US-born dropout, they’re somehow not illiterate?
On that note, this problem isn’t unique to Hispanics. I know plenty of white people who ARE high school graduates and are barely literate.
The statistic is only relevant here because it was used in this post to provide a possible explanation as to why Hispanic immigrants are struggling with DMV tests given to them in their own language.
I have to look up the stats, but to me, a casual observer who’s proud to have friends from many foreign cultures, it appears that emphasis on education in this subset of our population does not place a heavy emphasis on education.
Is it not a real tragedy that the parents who came here to provide better educational opportunities for their children are not (in many cases) seeing their children take advantage of these opportunities?
Compare these stats with immigrants of foreign-born Chinese immigrants and I think you’d be surprised how many in that population subset tend to have higher literacy rates and a greater propensity to pursue advanced education.

I would like to know what the passage rate is for first time test takers in Santa Clarita. And perhaps that can be further broken down by age group. I know that when my daughter turned 16, the first time passage rate amongst her high school peers was about 50/50.

Diana when did I ever say I am unhappy? Not once did I. I like living here and better yet the fact so many people on here just hate the fact the Hispanic/Latinos are moving forward and it upsets them, gives me joy and makes me proud of who I am. I dont discriminate but I dont allow anyone to walk over me. Change is coming. I would have to agree with you @Bibiana in order to to work for my company you have to pass a simple test and OMG you are right English speaking people with master degrees by far 75% to fail the test.

On another note California is broke why? We put the pre-test info is in so many different languages but our signs are only in one It’s ridiculous. Again not about racist, my husband is black and my daughter is 1/2 Mexican definitely not racist

Thank goodness there is a test. I was worried that they were just handing licenses out, while my teenagers have to pay for classes and take multiple tests to EARN the right to drive.

I’m all for people to get a drivers license but you have to earn it.. I don’t agree that illegals should be able to get a drivers license but I did not write the law. See as a U.S. Citizen I voted against but the U.S. Citizen including the many new U.S. citizens that worked their ass off to become legal is a big slap in the face to us all.
