Around Town | Bollywood Theme Kicks Off Thursdays at Newhall
|
Thursdays at Newhall kicked off on March 5 with a Bollywood themed JAM Session and ArtSLAM pop-up gallery. Part of Main Street in Newhall was closed down form 7:30 to 10 p.m. to make room for various artists to showcase their work, including caricatures, oil painting, photography. Bollywood dancers also were on hand to teach local residents how to twist and twirl. “Tonight has been great,” said Barbara Katz Bierman, a local artist. “I love Santa Clarita, it’s a beautiful city.” Along with the entertainment and art, attendees also had the opportunity to eat at the Newhall Refinery and El Trocadero or at the parked food trucks. There were also two food trucks on hand and the REP also had a pop-up beer garden on hand for adults. For the kids, there was arts and crafts and of course dancing. “It’s good for adults and it’s good for kids.” said Kyle Schnurr, Arts and Events coordinator for the City of Santa Clarita. Thursdays at Newhall happen every Thursday from March to October, with a different event each week. ArtSLAM happens every first Thursday of the month and will feature a different JAM Sessions theme each month. Next week, the second Thursday, Thursdays At Newhall cruises down Main Street with ‘Revved Up’, a new car show. The event will highlight a niche car genre each month. SENSES will return this year on the third Thursday of the month, and the fourth Thursday of the month will feature The ARTree Speaker Series at the Old Town Newhall Library as well as the OutWest Concert Series at The REP on Main Street.
