The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s STEM in 30 series of live, fast-paced, 30-minute webcasts are designed to increase interest and engagement in STEM for students. This episode features the SR-71 Blackbird aircraft on display at the museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va. and explores why it was so important for reconnaissance. Built of titanium, the SR-71 is the world’s fastest jet-propelled aircraft.
