Captain Merrill Stubing from the Love Boat, or as his friends and family know him -Gavin MacLeod, was honored by local officials for 30 years of service as a celebrity ambassador for Princess Cruises Wednesday morning. To many, he is known as Captain Merrill Stubing from the hit show The Love Boat but to the cruise line he is much more. “It’s wonderful and humbling,” said MacLeod. McLeod celebrated with his former co-star, Jill Whelan, who played Captain Stubing’s daughter, Princess Cruises staff, and the city of Santa Clarita Mayor Bob Kellar along with Mayor Pro Tem Dante Acosta. Mayor Bob Kellar and Mayor Pro Tem Dante Acosta also announced that July 6 will be now be known in the city of Santa Clarita as Gavin MacLeod Princess Cruises Ambassador Day.
