The fire, deemed the Sage Fire, started around noon and resulted in the evacuation of approximately 2,000 residents fromΒ 700-plus homes. The Red Cross has set up an evacuation area at West Ranch High School and Los Angeles County Fire has a command post set up at College of the Canyons. The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station released the following in a press release: “In the (unincorporated Los Angeles County) our major area of concern continues to be the Stevenson Ranch residential area. We currently have deputies on patrol on ‘fire watch’ to assist in spotting fire in case the wind shifts towards this residential area… “If additional evacuations become necessary, you are reminded to bring medications, important documents, and emergency supplies in case you are away from your residence for a prolonged period. “The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control will also be at West Ranch High School located at 26255 West Valencia Blvd. for shelter of small animals.” More than 200 firefighters and law enforcement officials have responded to the fire including the Los Angeles County and city fire departments, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and USDA Forest Service. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s major incident information website, the following areas are still under mandatory evacuations: Old Stone Way and Old Creek Way to Southern Oaks Drive, Morning Mist Drive, Southern Oaks Drive between Greenbrier and Meadow Lane, Autumn Place, Shady Glen Court, Magnolia Lane West of Oak Ridge Road, Hazel Crest Lane, Bracken Lane, Laurel Crest Lane, Sage Crest to Smokewood Way, Summer Hill Lane, South Wind Court and Jasmine Lane.
