The Sand Fire grew to more than 33,000 acres and was still only 10 percent contained Sunday. Communities east of the 14 Freeway were evacuated as firefighters battled flames in Placerita and Sand Canyon as well as the Golden Valley Open Space behind Fair Oaks Ranch.
