TODAY AT SIERRA VISTA
STAFF VS STUDENT SOFTBALL- Thanks to all of the students who came and tried out for the student softball team. We had a great turn out last Wednesday and Friday! The final roster is now posted on the PE bulletin board between the boys and girls locker rooms. If your name is on the list please come to a mandatory meeting Wednesday at lunch in room 630.
CHS CHOIR- Do you love to sing? Are you interested in joining choir at Canyon High School? Come to auditions in the choir room, after school TODAY. You don’t need to prepare a song, just come ready to sing with your amazing voice.
 
CALIFORNIA YOUNG READER MEDAL- Each year, California 7th and 8th grade students nominate and vote for their favorite books for the California Young Reader Medal or CYRM. This year’s nominees were “Hold Fast” which is about a girl trying to find her missing father while struggling to keep her family together in a homeless shelter; “Keeper of the Lost Cities” a fantasy story of 12-year-old Sophie who is a telepath from another world; and “Upside Down in the Middle of Nowhere” which is a story of survival, set during the time of Hurricane Katrina. And the winner is…..”Keeper of the Lost Cities”! Be sure to check out these excellent books, and more, from your SV Library.
TRAILBLAZER STUDENTS OF THE WEEK- Because it wasn’t announced last week, this week there are four Trailblazer Students of the Week, Maddison Searcy, Naomi Phillips, Cody Nave and Matthew Cabaddu. All of these students are hard workers, who make school a top priority. They are respectful and kind to everyone, and it is such a pleasure to having them in class and on our team! Congratulations!

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES- Today in Clubs and Activities the rubix cube club will be meeting in room 401 at lunch, the Yo-Yoers club will be meeting in room 902 at lunch, the Tutor chess club will be meeting in room 1001, the CHS tutors will be meeting in the Library after school from 2:15 to 3:15pm and finally Mrs. Mowry’s reading and writing work shop will be meeting after school.
 
GOLD MEDAL STUDENTS- Team Gold Rush congratulates our Gold Medal Students of the week for the Week of May 8, 2017.
Brian Juarez is a calm and collected student who works consistently in class. He is always on task and is very helpful to his peers during group work. We are proud to have him on our team.
Gracie Viramontez is a diligent student who strives her best. She is polite, respectful, and responsible. She is a good classmate and a positive influence on her peers.
 
JOB AT LIBRARY- Attention 7th graders. There’s still time for you to pick up an application to work at the circulation desk of our library for the fall semester. You can choose your work shift to be before or after school, or during brunch and lunch one day a week. See Mrs. Fulleman for more information. Applications are due on THIS Friday, May 19th.
 
GLOWING GALAXY DANCE- Come join us for our last dance of the year, the “Glowing Galaxy” blacklight dance on THIS Friday, May 12th from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the MPR. We will be having “out of this world” decorations, cool lights, and fog machines. We will also be selling Krispy Kreme Donuts and snacks at the dance! Today and tomorrow tickets will be $8, and Friday they will be $10. Remember to bring your ID card with you when you purchase a ticket. If you are a Party Pack member, you do not need to purchase a ticket, just show up for the dance! Please remember that students CANNOT leave the dance early due to safety reasons. We encourage wearing white or neon colors because those colors will glow in the black lights! Hope to see you at our last dance of the year!
 
STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK- This week is Staff Appreciation Week. Sierra Vista staff is amazing and one of a kind. Their hard working and diligent, so here are a few ways to say that we care. Today, get them a school supply of need. Thursday give them their favorite fruit, and Friday give them something of your choice. Sierra Vista’s staff rocks!
 
SPIRIT WEEK!- This week is spirit week! Today wear pink or red, on Thursday wear black, and on Friday wear neon or white to go with our black light dance. Let’s see your spirit Sierra Vista!
 
ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS- There are only 61 yearbooks still available for purchase. After those 61 have been sold, our yearbook are all sold out. Yearbooks are now $75, cash or credit card only. Buy yours at the ASB Window before it’s too late.
 
TRIP TO FRANCE- Hey eighth graders! Explorica Tours and the Canyon High School World Languages Department are organizing a student trip to France for Spring Break 2018. Click here for more details.
