In this Caltrans News Flash, Public Information Officer Thomas Lawrence visits with Resident Engineer Abdul Rashid to discuss the implementation of ramp metering on state roadways and the installation and enhancement of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) across the state. Thanks to Senate Bill 1, 7,700 traffic operating systems will be fixed in California in the next decade. ITS elements like ramp metering, high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes, traffic signals and changeable message signs (CMS) improve safety and help to alleviate traffic congestion.
