After teaching music for 37 years, the last 33 at Placerita Junior High School, Ms. Spula, a three-time Teacher of the Year at Placerita, is retiring at the end of the school year. Her past and present students honored her with a concert in her honor on May 7.

One of Kathryn Spula’s former students – Robby Good – is currently a music major at UCLA. He was also a three-year Fellow in the Nancy and Barry Sanders Los Angeles Philharmonic Composer Fellowship Program and has had his compositions performed at the Walt Disney Concert Hall by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and at Carnegie Hall. Robby wrote a piece of music for Mrs. Spula, and was performed by the Hart Wind Ensemble and Placerita JHS Advanced Band.
