SCVTV’s Community Corner: Prepping for Extreme Heat

On this segment from SCVTV’s Community Corner, the City of Santa Clarita’s Emergency Operations Analyst Roger Wilcox discusses how to prep for extreme heat and how to stay safe during extreme heat events.

While Summer can begin with overcast weather and low temperatures, the heat can quickly pick-up; before you know it, the Santa Clarita Valley, and Southern California in general, can feel the full impact of intense, extreme heat.

For 2023, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has forecasted a hotter than normal summer season, so it’s important for residents to prepare ahead of extreme heat events.

There are many ways to ensure you “weather the storm” of extreme heat events, whether that’s knowing the best ways to stay cool during the hottest parts of the day, watching out for signs of heat stroke, or knowing what to do if there is a power outage.

Wilcox provides tips for each of these areas in the above interview.

Additionally, you can find more tips, tricks, and information about prepping for extreme heat, as well as information on the other emergency preparedness programs offered through the City of Santa Clarita, at https://www.santa-clarita.com/city-hall/departments/recreation-community-services-and-open-space/emergency-management.

This show is all about you Santa Clarita – the nonprofits, the schools, our local government, and the amazing people who make up our wonderful community.
