On this segment of SCVTV’s Community Corner, hear how you can help keep Santa Clarita and the Santa Clara River clean at the 28th annual River Rally Clean Up and Environmental Expo; City of Santa Clarita Project Technician Lindsay Schmandt tells us more.

This year’s event will take place at the Newhall Community Center on Saturday, September 16; all volunteers must pre-register to participate.

The River Rally is a great volunteering opportunity that is appropriate for all ages, but it is also an important tradition that has helped maintain the biological health of the riverbed: the Santa Clara River is prone to debris due to the direct flow to it from surrounding storm drains. Over the years, volunteers have found thousands of pounds of trash, including larger items like shopping carts and even a basketball hoop.

The 28th Annual River Rally and Environmental Expo will allow participants to give back to their community and lend a hand to the overall health of this natural aspect of the Santa Clarita landscape.
