Burrtec Waste Industries has been hauling Santa Clarita residents’ trash for more than six months now, but there are still a lot of questions about what kind of waste belongs in which trash can; learn all the do’s, don’ts, how-to’s, and inside tips about properly sorting your waste from Laura Jardine, the Administrative Analyst with city of Santa Clarita.

The Burrtec transition was a result of CA Senate Bill 1383, requiring California cities like Santa Clarita to implement an organic waste collection service to residents.

When the transition took full effect in early 2023, residents began receiving new waste bins–including a bin to collect their food waste–as well as new rules for how they sort their trash and dispose of it in their bins for trash collection.
