SCVTV's Community Corner | Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Offering Free ‘Diabetes Support Group’
|
Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s Program Coordinator David Bernard shares how the Hospital’s “Diabetes Support Group” is helping those with diabetes and pre-diabetes find community, assistance, and knowledge that empowers them in their health journey. The program is back at a time when, according to the American Diabetes Association, more than 38 million children and adults have diabetes in the United States. Although the exact number of Santa Clarita Valley residents with diabetes is unclear to health officials, the need is prevalent; that’s why Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is once again providing this free support group. As diabetes patients and caregivers navigate their diagnosis, support groups can help patients and caregivers navigate the often confusing information around diabetes education. Additionally, support groups can improve their mental health, which can help improve their physical health. As noted on the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital website, healthy coping mechanisms can even aid in lowering blood sugar, or A1C, levels. The free Diabetes Support Group is typically held on the first Monday of every month, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Find out more information about this and the Hopsital’s other ongoing programs on the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital website.
