SCVTV's Community Corner | Learn How the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center Serves Growing Mental Health Needs in the SCV
|
In this segment of SCVTV’s Community Corner, Philip Solomon, CEO of the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, and Amanda Hills, Director of Behavioral Health for the Center, share exciting news about how a recent grant has contributed to the growth of the Center’s behavioral health programs. The grant paved the way for the Center to hire a specialized psychiatric nurse practitioner and certified counselor, who specifically treats substance use disorder. Both roles will provide essential support to students and families within the William S. Hart Union High School District struggling with substance use. Amanda also discusses how the shooting at Saugus High School, active shooter drills, and the COVID-19 lockdowns have contributed to rising rates of anxiety and depression among youth in the Santa Clarita Valley — underscoring the urgent need for accessible mental health programs. Founded more than 40 years ago in Val Verde, the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center now serves over 5,000 individuals annually in the Santa Clarita Valley and other underserved communities.
