We may soon be closing the chapter on another school year, but Newhall School District Superintendent Dr. Leticia Hernandez says there are still plenty of fun activities left before students hang up their backpacks for the summer.

In addition to exciting end-of-year events, NSD is celebrating several major accomplishments. First, three schools — Old Orchard, Meadows, and Pico Canyon — have been named 2024 California Distinguished Schools, a prestigious honor awarded to just 336 elementary schools across the state. These schools will be formally recognized at a celebration in Anaheim on May 30. Congratulations to all the students, staff, and families who contributed to this achievement!

NSD is also proud to recognize a major milestone for the district’s Dual Immersion program. Launched in 2019, the program welcomed its first cohort of Kindergarten students with the goal of developing bilingual and biliterate learners. Now, those students are graduating into sixth grade, reading and writing fluently in both English and Spanish. This inaugural class was recently honored by the California Association of Bilingual Education for their dedication and success. ¡Felicidades to these amazing students!
