Schools | Bowman High School Wildland Fire Academy Graduation
|
On May 24, ten students from Bowman High School graduated from the first Wildland Fire Academy, held at Miracle Mountain in the Angeles National Forest. The program was led by Hollywood Impact Studios with support from Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s office. Over eight weeks, students trained alongside retired fire professionals, gaining hands-on experience in wildfire response. The academy covered physical training, equipment use, land management, fire control, and teamwork. Students also visited the site of the recent Hughes Fire for a real-world look at wildfire impact. Graduation included a live fire demonstration with guidance from the L.A. County Fire Department, giving students the chance to put their training into action. Families, friends, school staff, and representatives from Supervisor Barger’s office attended to celebrate the milestone. The Wildland Fire Academy gave students practical skills, professional exposure, and a foundation for pursuing careers in fire service or public safety.
