Schiavo Recognizes 2025 Veterans of the Year

On Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo recognized local veterans whose dedication to service continues long after their military careers. The annual 40th Assembly District’s “Veteran of the Year” Ceremony honors individuals who demonstrate ongoing leadership, advocacy, mentorship, and community involvement.

This year’s ceremony celebrated veterans who continue to make a difference in their communities, whether through mentorship, advocacy, or support programs. Below are the 2025 honorees and nominees, recognized for their extraordinary commitment to service.

2025 Veterans of the Year Honorees

Veteran of the Year: Chief Warrant Officer 2 (Ret.) Emby Gonzalez
Emby Gonzalez served 21 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. She continues her service as a Veterans Service Officer, helping veterans and their families access the benefits and care they’ve earned through their service.

Santa Clarita Valley Veteran of the Year: Max Morgan
A former Navy SEAL, Marine Corps Officer, and Beverly Hills Police Officer, Max Morgan continues to serve his community by mentoring and supporting veterans, including those living with PTSD.

Castaic / Val Verde Veteran of the Year: Darcy Stinson
A U.S. Navy veteran, Darcy Stinson advocates for community health and environmental safety and is the driving force behind the Val Verde Food Pantry, which supports families facing food insecurity.

San Fernando Valley Veteran of the Year: Garry Fordyce
A Vietnam veteran and long-serving community leader, Garry Fordyce has worked for years to increase civic participation and strengthen neighborhood engagement throughout North Hills and Northridge.
