Hi again everybody and welcome once again to another edition of Inside Sports. I'm Dave Caldwell. And for the next 30 minutes we are going to give you highlights of high school football, college soccer, girls golf and volleyball, and the interview I had with former Hart quarterback and current Miami Dolphin, Matt Moore. He gave us an insight on what he learned growing up here in Santa Clarita and going to Hart High School that he carries with him as a quarterback in the NFL. Let's start with the game you saw right here on SCVTV Friday night, the Saugus Centurions taking on the No. 1 team in the Northern Division, the Hart Indians. In a pre-game ceremony, Matt Moore had his No. 17 retired for the Indians. Just four football numbers in the 60-year history of Hart High School have been retired. On to the game where the Indians didn't get on the board until the second quarter when quarterback Brady White dumps it off to Wes Fitzpatrick, who goes 19 yards for the score. On the Indians next possession, junior Connor Wingenroth takes the snap at quarterback and goes six yards to give the Indians a two touchdown lead. The Indians defense held the Centurion offense to just 67 yards total offense in the first half. In the third the Indians defense showed its ability to hit. Cody Shoemaker DECKS Saugus's Marc Langford. Garrett Updegraft picks up the loose football for Hart. The Centurions had four turnovers in the game. On the very next play, White hits fellow sophomore Trent Irwin for the 50-yard score. White threw for 407 yards and three touchdowns in the game. In the fourth quarter White dumps to Wingenroth who fakes two Centurions out of their cleats and then sprints 75 yards for the score as the Indians go on to shut out the Centurions. Hart is now 7-1 and will no doubt stay as the No. 1 team in the Northern Division (35-0).
On to Harry Welch Stadium where the Canyon Cowboys hosted the Valencia Vikings in what turned out to be a high scoring shootout and fans for both teams were fired up for this much-anticipated matchup. In the 2nd quarter with Valencia holding a 26-20 advantage, quarterback Cade Apsay finds Drew Wolitarski for a 34-yard completion down to the 1-yard line. That sets up an easy one-yard sneak for Apsay to give the cowboys a one-point lead at half. In the 2nd half, Cade Apsay strikes again from 38 yards out finding Liam Cabrera in the endzone, giving Canyon a 34-26 lead. Apsay was 21-of-41 for 394 yards and four touchdowns. But Valencia wasn't done yet. Quarterback Sean Murphy shows that he has an arm as well, going deep to Jay Jay Wilson, 35 yards for the score and Valencia is back within one, 34-33. Than Valencia began to take control of the game. In the 4th quarter with Valencia leading 40-34, Wilson hauls in this nine yarder to the one yard line setting up a one-yard plunge by Stone Jackson. On Valencia's next drive, Murphy finds Wilson for a 15 yard completion and the score. Murphy completed 27-of-37 for 473 yards and SIX touchdowns. Canyon would manage to get one more touchdown but that would be all as Valencia would tally up 28 points in the 2nd half alone, finishing off the Cowboys (54-41).
In other Foothill League action, the Wildcats got their first win in league with a big win over arch rival Golden Valley (35-13).
So as we look at the standings, Hart and Valencia remain as the only two undefeated teams in league, but that is only going to last for a few more days because these two teams will face off Friday at Valencia High School.
In other high school football action, Santa Clarita Christian travelled all the way to San Juan Capistrano only to get shut out by the Warriors (Saddleback Valley Christian 21-0), and in 8-man, Trinity was down 34-14 at half and came back with three second half touchdowns to defeat one of the best teams in the STATE by a point. Trinity may see their No. 8 state ranking move up with this win. (35-34)
Turning to college football where the College of the Canyons Cougars AND the UCLA Bruins had the week off, Matt Barkley threw for his 100th touchdown of his Trojan career as USC rolled over the Buffaloes (50-6).
Many of you already know that Steven Manfro, former standout running back with the Valencia Vikings, is now a receiver in his redshirt freshman year at UCLA. What most of you don't know is how connected he is with the worst disaster in American history. Teegrin Martirosian with Cougar News, gives us the story.

We are going to take a break here on Inside Sports, and when we return we will look at The two-day Newhall Cup that determined the league champions and MVP of Foothill League girls golf, and later, Matt Moore had his No. 17 retired during a pre-game ceremony Friday. I had a chance to sit down with the Miami Dolphoins quarterback for a fun look back at the days that prepared him for the NFL. That's all coming up on Inside Sports.
(BREAK)
Welcome back to Inside Sports. The final round of girls Foothill League golf was played Wednesday as part of the Newhall Cup at TPC-Valencia. To no one's surprise, West Ranch came through with the team title, not only winning the final league match by 11 strokes but the season total by 49. Hart finished second on the season with Golden Valley just four strokes back for third. The league MVP this year is Hart's Jamie Corr, who finished with a 9-hole average of 37.6 and a six-stroke cushion over Golden Valley freshman Elisa Pierre. Corr also won Wednesday's Newhall Cup with a 27-hole score of 4-over 112.
(SOR-Corr)
Hart and Golden Valley were tied for second in the team score of the Newhall Cup, with Hart getting the edge in the tiebreaker.
College of the Canyons Womens Soccer has been spectacular this year, undefeated on the season and moving up to No. 5 in the nation according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America which is based in Kansas City. Last week they played Pierce, and Kyle Ghafouri gives us the story.

The Cougars followed up that win with a 2-2 tie Friday against Santa Monica. Canyons is 12-0-3 in 2012.
We are going to take a break here on Inside Sports and as we do I want to introduce you to Griffin Scott, the Wendy's of Santa Clarita Student Athlete of the Week.

(BREAK)
Welcome back to Inside Sports. Everyone knows how difficult it is to become an NFL football player. I think you're more likely to be hit by a bolt of lightening wearing purple sandals while petting an aligator than you are ever going to throw a touchdown pass in an NFL Stadium. Yet Matt Moore has done that. The former Hart quarterback had his No. 17 retired in a pre-game ceremony Friday, but before that I had a chance to sit down with the man at his old stomping grounds.
