LASD | Sheriff McDonnell Introduces Unmanned Aircraft System for Rescue, HazMat and Disaster Operations
|
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) is taking full advantage of leading technology to gain a two-fold benefit: Obtain a more informative vantage point, and increase safety for sworn personnel and civilians during certain tactical response operations. (c) 2017 SCVTV |
I find this to be a great idea. BUT, I would hope the dept has technically savvy employees, that could set up a similar, maybe better, system for less than half the cost.
This will be very useful and I’m surprised it took them this long to get onboard. (Considering the red tape and giant, slow-to-move organization, and precarious funding, maybe I’m not surprised…)
The entire county as ONE of these… they need two dozen, and I guarantee that will happen soon as they recognize its usefulness. (And it WILL be used for surveillance, I don’t care what they say. They already do surveillance from extremely long range with manned helicopters.)
BTW, “Unmanned Aircraft System” commonly known as a “drone.”
The industry knows them as “UAV” (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), not a “UAS”.
