Video by Michele Lutes Carousel Ranch welcomed 21 teams and 106 players to the 10th Annual How the West Was Won The teams competed in golf tournament-style, rotating between 14 ranges throughout the day. There will be serious competition as well as less formal target shooting, such as from the back of a large rocking horse. Participating shooters ranged from those with experience to men and women who have never even held a gun. The day started at 9 a.m. with registration and a light breakfast. The tournament went from 10 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m., followed by lunch catered by Wolf Creek Restaurant and Brewing Company and presentation of trophies, titles and prizes. In between ranges, there were games (giant Jenga, cornhole, etc.), massages, snacks, fun and great photo opportunities. This is the second year Moore N’ Moore Sporting Clays has hosted the charity shoot for Carousel Ranch. The range was recently rebuilt after it was destroyed by the Creek Fire last December 5. The owners of Moore N’ Moore have a child who participates in the Carousel Ranch program, which provides equestrian therapy for children with disabilities by creating an individualized program to meet each child’s specific needs and goals. Using a combination of vaulting (gymnastics on a moving horse) and therapeutic riding (both English and Western), the ranch strives to create an atmosphere where every child can and will succeed…a place where therapy is disguised as fun. The ranch also serves young adults with special needs through its Ready to Work program. Moore N’ Moore Sporting Clays is located at 12651 North Little Tujunga Canyon Road, Sylmar 91342.
