Meet the Wild Residents of Animal Tracks Inc.

In this segment of SCVTV’s Community Corner, Stacy Gunderson, Executive Director of Animal Tracks, Inc., introduces us to some incredible creatures who were more than ready for their close-ups.

Student guest hosts Logan Galarza and Sophie Liepack were up for a little monkey business with Chrissy the baboon, who just celebrated her 21st birthday. Chrissy was originally owned by a movie animal company that purchased her for the film Evan Almighty. Unfortunately, her scenes ended up on the cutting room floor, and due to her less “camera-friendly” features, Hollywood never came calling again. She’s been happily living at Animal Tracks since 2009.

Stacy also brought along Badger the skunk. After his mother was hit by a car, Badger was left to fend for himself. Stacy explains why it’s always okay to leave water out for wildlife—but why leaving out food can be harmful. She also shares why owls are one of the skunk’s biggest natural threats.

Next, we meet Casper, a Goffin’s cockatoo, and Cami, a Moluccan cockatoo. Cockatoos were once popular pets, but as Stacy explains, their destructive behavior is just one of many reasons they are not suited for life in a typical household. Casper, who’s in his 40s, and Cami, in her 20s, now serve as rainforest ambassadors for Animal Tracks.

This summer, you can visit Animal Tracks yourself and experience their exciting new wolf-viewing area, designed so guests can safely picnic just feet away from their hybrid wolves. Through up-close encounters with rescued animals, Animal Tracks gives visitors a chance to learn about wildlife and ecosystems from all over the world without ever leaving California.

Throughout the segment, Stacy emphasizes that exotic animals should never be kept as pets, and that organizations like Animal Tracks exist to give these animals the specialized care they need—and would never receive in a home.
