SCVTV's Community Corner | Explore the Great Outdoors This Summer Without Leaving Santa Clarita
|
Summer is coming in hot, so who better to fill us in on all the fun, exciting and local summertime outdoor activities than Sean Tuber, Recreation & Community Services Coordinator for the city of Santa Clarita. Tuber fills us in on the guided and themed Community Hike Program, which is a free and family-friendly way to hit the trails, enjoy the great outdoors and connect with nature. It’s also an opportunity to enjoy trail hiking that’s fun, engaging and educational. If your child is looking for more than just a hike, the City’s award-winning Youth Outdoor Adventure program might be right up their ally. YOA was started in the fall of 2022 and quickly became a community favorite. This innovative three-day camp experience teaches kids outdoor skills, first-aid and trail safety. It will also include live animal presentations, trail cleanup and visits from local firefighters and California Wildlife Center. Interested in testing out your mountain biking skills? The City is also offering monthly Mountain Bike Demo Days at the Bike Park. You don’t even need a bike! The program comes equipped with a fleet of 15 trek mountain bikes for all ages, including bikes for adults. This family-friendly program helps build skills and confidence for a safe and enjoyable bike trail experience. Additionally, the City is hosting Sunset Sessions, which is very similar to Mountain Bike Demo Days, but with a party-like atmosphere that includes fun, family-friendly activities, music, cornhole and chance to win prizes. If you’re looking for ways to keep you safe on the trails, the city of Santa Clarita is also holding a First-Aid Hike. The educational trek will include valuable safety demonstrations and vital teaching aids that will prepare you for any outdoor, recreational emergency. Summer is the perfect time to explore the many trails and enjoy picturesque hikes in Santa Clarita.
