On this episode of SCVTV’s Community Corner, co-hosts Dave Caldwell and Carrie Lujan kick things off with meaningful and exciting local gatherings the community can enjoy. So if you’re looking to give back to worthy causes or if you’re simply wanting to expand your resume, the Santa Clarita Valley has events that cater to a wide-range of interests. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has partnered with a slate of local businesses to raise funds for the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center. From special offerings at local eateries, to family-friendly entertainment, giving back has never been more easy and accessible! Proceeds will benefit the Center’s state of the art technology, screening, breast cancer support and treatment. Visit HenryMayoGiving.com for a list of participating businesses. Are you on a job hunt? Or maybe you need to level up your resume writing skills? Look no further! The Santa Clarita Job Fair is taking place Friday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at College of the Canyons’ Valencia campus. The job fair is open to the public and will include multiple industries looking to hire. There will also be opportunities for resume writing assistance, which you can participate on campus (dates to be determined) or via Zoom. The job fair and campus parking are free. For more information, visit www.canyons.edu/studentservices/career/job-fair. If you’re looking to enjoy a fabulous, meaningful day of music, in an intimate hillside environment near a picturesque lake, all while making an impact on two very special causes, then The Painted Turtle’s annual Harvest Moon Gathering benefit concert is just your vibe! The event will take place at The Painted Turtle’s Lake Hughes location Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 12 p.m. and will bring together a jam-packed, star-studded lineup that includes Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts, Beck, and special guest Lana Del Rey. Founded by legendary actor and humanitarian Paul Newman, The Painted Turtle provides a fun and safe camp experience where children who are battling serious illnesses can just be kids. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the organization’s programs and resources, as well as The Bridge School, which empowers kids with physical and speech disabilities to learn, connect and thrive.
