On Nov. 7, 2025, Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo honored local veterans at the 40th Assembly District’s “Veteran of the Year” Ceremony, celebrating those who continue serving their communities through mentorship, advocacy, and support programs.

2025 Veterans of the Year Honorees

Veteran of the Year: Chief Warrant Officer 2 (Ret.) Emby Gonzalez – 21-year U.S. Marine Corps veteran and current Veterans Service Officer.

Santa Clarita Valley: Max Morgan – Former Navy SEAL, Marine Corps Officer, and police officer supporting veterans, including those with PTSD.

Castaic / Val Verde: Darcy Stinson – U.S. Navy veteran and advocate for community health, founder of Val Verde Food Pantry.

San Fernando Valley: Garry Fordyce – Vietnam veteran and longtime community leader promoting civic engagement.

Nominees: Cherie Carpenter, Bruce Fortine, Bruce Geiger, Robert Kellar, James McCoy, Jerry Rhodes.
