Sex Offenders May Soon Have to Register Facebook/MySpace Accounts to Law Enforcement
SACRAMENTO (JUNE 1, 2011) — Recognizing the importance of social networks in keeping children safe from predators, I introduced Senate Bill 57 — a bill to require all registered sex offenders to disclose their online social network addresses as part of their annual registration requirement.
"Social networks have become a central part of our children's lives and sex offenders are going there to lure them. Just as they have to register their physical whereabouts, it follows that they must also make known where they go in cyber space.
"The California Senate today passed legislation to make this a requirement with 32 aye and two (2) no votes."
