City Hosts Arts Summit

The city of Santa Clarita hosts arts summit to engage community participation in the next phase of the Cultural Arts Master Plan. Gloria Locke reports.

[City of Santa Clarita] – The City of Santa Clarita is encouraging local residents and organizations to provide valuable input for the City’s Arts Master Plan. Community members can help shape the plan and the future of the arts in Santa Clarita by completing an online Arts and Entertainment Survey or by attending a public Arts and Entertainment Summit at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 6, at the Santa Clarita Activities Center.

The Arts Master Plan will serve as a road map for arts and cultural development in the City of Santa Clarita over the next ten years.  The City is seeking input from the community to address public art, arts facilities, arts programming and how to secure and develop funding for the arts, which will be outlined in the plan.

“As we embark on developing the City of Santa Clarita’s Arts Master Plan, input from residents and organizations is crucial to ensuring the plan speaks to the creative voice of the community,” said Mayor Marsha McLean. “By attending the public summit and participating in the online survey, community members will help set the stage for the arts and entertainment they want to see most in Santa Clarita.”

The Arts and Entertainment Summit will feature several “breakout sessions” allowing residents to weigh in on a variety of topics to be included in the Arts Master Plan. The sessions will focus on arts education and lifelong learning in the arts; public and private arts funding; arts facilities; the next steps for public art; arts programs for children and families; arts and entertainment programming for adults; the Newhall Arts District; celebrating western heritage; advancing the arts community; support for individual artists; and programming for Millennials.

Residents and local organizations can also provide input on the Arts Master Plan online through the Arts and Entertainment Survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/XB3PSHS. The survey prompts community members to share their opinion on arts and entertainment subjects, including creative interests; local arts and entertainment; the kind of arts programs, classes and installations residents want to see most, and more.

All residents who participate in the online survey will be entered to win free prizes celebrating local art and entertainment in Santa Clarita, including parking passes to Concerts in the Park, VIP tickets to the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, entries to the Santa Clarita Marathon, tickets to the Performing Arts Center and performances at the Canyon Theatre Guild.
