Finding Art Santa Clarita | Finding Art from Home: COC’s ‘Industry Insights Series’

College of the Canyons’ “Industry Insights Series” was started as an idea to connect students, faculty, staff, and the community at large with industry professionals working in the fields of study offered in the School of Visual and Performing Arts. However, when the pandemic hit and virtual learning became the necessary norm, School of Visual and Performing Arts Dean Jennifer Smolos, who ideated the Industry Insights Series, decided to make use of the virtual format and reach out to what Smolos refers to as “some stretch artists”, ranging from renowned composer Eric Whitacre to famed former White House photographer Pete Souza. The series began in October 2020 and then restarted again in February 2021, lasting through April 2021. Students and the community were able to virtually connect to and learn from the storied industry professionals via Zoom.
