Artist Spotlight: Taylor Thomas

Get to know Taylor Thomas and her transition into becoming a public artist. She graduated magna cum laude with Distinction from Amherst College in 2017 where she double majored in Sociology and Film & Media Studies. After receiving her undergraduate degree, Thomas spent 6 years developing feature films at Netflix and The Walt Disney Company. However, her true interests lead her to change careers and create the representation that she craved in the visual arts. She’s currently pursuing her MFA in Fine Art at CalArts.

Thomas delves deep into her heritage, blending original photos with urban materials to transcend traditional portraiture. Her exhibit is on view at the Canyon Country Community Center Gallery until June 12 and invites viewers to engage with the evolving narratives of Blackness in America.

Through a captivating mix of imagery and reflection, Thomas sparks a dialogue on the intersection of family, identity, and history.

View “Woven Roots” by Taylor Thomas at the Canyon Country Community Center located at 18410 Sierra Hwy, Santa Clarita, CA 91351.
